This year’s “Power Week 4 in 1 – Dental Expert Training” took place in Zurich, Switzerland, from October 6 to 10. Led by experienced SSOP teachers Ron Scholte and Sabine von Sinner, participants traveled from Norway, Australia, and Poland to take their knowledge to the next level in just one week. “Do you want to become a dental prosthetics expert in just five days?” – this claim says it all. Power Week combines theory and practice, basics and expert knowledge, textbooks and laboratory experience into a compact learning format with lasting added value.
Four courses in one week – concentrated knowledge packed into five days.
Day 1: Clinical basics of total prosthetics
The kick-off was dedicated to this theory course, which focused on anatomical impression taking, registration, chewing stability, and the position and stability of the prosthesis – the essential building blocks for reproducible treatment success.
Day 2: Technical basics of total prosthetics
On the second day, the focus was on the technical processes behind high-quality dental prostheses. Workflows, materials, and precise technical steps were analyzed in order to combine the theoretical basis with practical understanding.
Day 3 & 4: Hands-on according to the GERBER concept
The following 1.5 days focused on the GERBER concept: After model analysis, front and side teeth were built up in wax – a perfect exercise for harmoniously combining function and aesthetics.
On the afternoon of the third day, the traditional surprise trip awaited: this time, it was to the House of Läderach in Bilten, where participants immersed themselves in the world of Swiss chocolate – from cocoa beans to liquid chocolate. The evening came to a delightful close on Lake Zurich – with inspiring conversations and a magnificent view of the lake at night.
Day 5: Materials science and elaboration
The last day of the course was devoted to material processing and refinement: embedding with silicone cuffs, model isolation, conditioning of artificial teeth, finishing, and static and dynamic occlusion. Precision, systematicity, and sensitive work for perfect finalization characterized this conclusion.
It was an intensive week, but well worth it, as a “newly minted expert” in total prosthetics reports:
„The teacher’s commitment was really great and helped us a lot to fully understand the functional principle. The knowledge imparted in the course prepared us optimally to apply what we had learned not only under ideal conditions, but also in real-life situations, and to act more confidently in these situations.
Thank you very much, Ron!“
Conclusion
Our SSOP Power Week 2025 was once again an impressive example of practice-oriented continuing education at the highest level. International participants, intensive learning phases, and personal exchanges made the week an unforgettable experience.
