Déterminer un joint vélo-palatin

In a total removable prosthesis, the aim of determining the joint between the denture and the palate is to ensure better retention of the maxillary prosthesis in the socket.

For a better understanding, let's first define the joint vélo-palatin: * It is an expansion of the edge of a complete maxillary prosthesis, corresponding to an enregistrement compressif du palais mou à la limite du palais dur, et établissant un contact permanante et ferme avec la muque palatine.

This zone is specific to each patient, and depending on the inclination of the voile, the thickness of the tissues at the level of the Schroeder zones, it is up to the practitioner to determine it. On the chair, he will be able to visualize the joint of the vélo-palatinate and transcribe it in the alginate of the primary skin.

The laboratory model allows the technician to prepare an individual port slightly longer than the indicated limit. The aim is to support the material used to register the value and degree of depression of this zone during the functional test. Once the functional calibration has been carried out, the final model is completed and the practitioner proceeds to calibrate the final zone of the bicycle-pallet joint. During the aesthetic assessment, it is important to verify this zone.
