Functional movement control plays a crucial role in ensuring balanced occlusion. This is achieved using abrasion facets integrated into the morphology of Candulor semi-anatomical prosthetic teeth, which ensure a harmonious distribution of occlusal contacts during mandibular movements.
For midline movement, which affects the balancing side, it is essential to ensure contact between the palatal cusps of the upper molars and the cusps of the opposing lower molars. These contact points should be located between teeth 16 and 17 on teeth 46 and 47, or between teeth 26 and 27 on teeth 36 and 37. This contact ensures occlusal stability during lateral mandibular movements.
During lateral extrusion, which involves the working side, it's important to establish contact between the buccal cusps of the corresponding upper and lower premolars and molars. The required contact points are located between teeth 14 and 15 on teeth 44 and 45, or between teeth 24 and 25 on teeth 34 and 35. This maintains optimal function while protecting the dental structures.
For protrusion, at least two guiding facets should be provided on each side, preferably in the premolar region. These facets ensure a smooth and stable transition during forward mandibular movements, preventing imbalances and excessive tension on the teeth.
However, it is crucial to avoid exclusively guiding the anterior teeth or canines. These teeth, often brought in with aesthetics as the primary focus, can lead to occlusal instability. A balanced distribution of contact points across other areas of the dental arch is therefore recommended to prevent complications.
By adhering to these principles, it is possible to optimize chewing function while ensuring a stable and lasting bite.
