GERBER's stipulation that every tooth is assigned the task of directing all forces exclusively vertically and not horizontally to the denture support area during the final phase of food comminution or idle mastication. The totality of all teeth acts as a position-stabilizing force vector. The prerequisite is not to place posterior teeth on inclined planes and to load them occlusally in the direction of the alveolar ridge as a matter of principle.
